Intro to Anchor Building

Climbing anchors are the core of safe climbing systems on rock, snow, and ice. This course is a thorough review of rock climbing anchors and is designed for those who have some outdoor climbing experience. Not recommended for complete beginners. Led by Swis Stockton, Granite Arches climbing guide, this special class is only being offered at the River Rock this March and April!

The class will cover:
-different anchoring materials, including hardware, software, and natural
-critical assessment of anchor analysis
-types of anchors and anchor systems
-demonstrations and question and answer

Attendees should arrive prepared with paper and pencil for notes, a harness and climbing shoes, and their personal equipment they will be anchoring with.

Participants must be 14 years of age or older. Must be Top Rope Belay verified. Lead Climbing verified is a plus. This clinic is $25 for members, $50 for non-members (day pass and rental gear not included). Registration is required as space is limited!

Swis Stockton is a Granite Arches climbing guide. He is also a Certified Rock Instructor, an AMGA Single Pitch Instructor Course Provider, and has written articles for Rock and Ice magazine. He has over 20 years of guiding experience and has climbed all over the world from New Hampshire to the Canadian Rockies to the Andes.
