Rappelling Best Practices

This special class led by Swis Stockton, a Granite Arches climbing guide, is only being offered at the River Rock this March and April! The class will follow the AAC guidelines and also include extra information that Granite Arches finds useful. This course is a thorough overview of rappelling and is designed for those who have some outdoor climbing experience. Not recommended for complete beginners.

The class will cover:
-Analysis of the causes of rappelling accidents
-Anchors and accessing fixed anchors
-Knotting, throwing, and descending ropes
-Rappel systems and backups
-Effective communication
-Hands on practice and questions

Attendees should arrive prepared with paper and pencil for notes, a harness, and climbing shoes.

Participants must be 14 years of age or older. Must be Top Rope Belay verified. Lead Climbing verified is a plus. This clinic is $25 for members, $50 for non-members (day pass and rental gear not included). Registration is required as space is limited!

Swis Stockton is a Granite Arches climbing guide. He is also a Certified Rock Instructor, an AMGA Single Pitch Instructor Course Provider, and has written articles for Rock and Ice magazine. He has over 20 years of guiding experience and has climbed all over the world from New Hampshire to the Canadian Rockies to the Andes.
