Gym to Crag

Love climbing indoors but want to explore some of the region’s best crags? This three part Gym to Crag clinic will give you the skills to begin transitioning to outdoor climbing. From etiquette and common environmental hazards to learning outdoor specific skills such as setting a top rope and cleaning an anchor, this clinic will get you ready for a spring and summer of climbing! This special class, led by Bryan Simon, is only being offered at the River Rock this February!

 

 

The class will cover:
+ Safety, Hazards, and Crag awareness
+ Crag etiquette, keeping your impact low, and respecting the rock
+ Belaying and communicating
+ Cleaning an anchor
+ Setting top ropes safely
+ Gear you need
+ Falling

Attendees should arrive prepared with paper and pencil for notes, a harness, and climbing shoes.

Participants must be 16 years of age or older. Participants will attend all three sessions. Must be Top Rope Belay verified. Lead Climbing verified is a plus. This clinic is $50 for members, $65 for non-members (day pass and rental gear not included). Registration is required as space is limited!

Bryan is a managing editor for the American Alpine Club, a regular contributor for Climbing magazine, and a guide for New River Mountain Guides in Fayetteville, WV. He has a master’s degree in Mountain Medicine from the University of Leicester in the UK and has climbed routes or mountains on every continent except Antarctica.
