Just getting into climbing and looking for some tips on how to progress from climbing a V0/5.7 to a V1/5.9? In this class we will introduce you to footwork, how to place your feet precisely and deliberately, sequencing, and stressing the importance of warming up. Register here.
Participants must be between 8-13 years of age, 14–17-year-olds may take the adult beginner movement class. All instruction will take place in the bouldering area, but skills and techniques learned will apply to your rope climbing. This clinic is $10 for members, which goes towards dues for the next billing period if you attend the class. $10 for non-members (day pass and rental gear not included). Registration is required as space is limited! Parents must remain with their children during the class.

After taking the class and before your first time climbing, you will be required to take a belay test showing the staff that you have retained all the information and skills necessary. Taking this class and successfully passing the belay test will enable you to belay climbers in the gym.
This course takes approximately an hour and a half. Rental gear and day pass are not included in class fee.

If you have never led before, or it’s been awhile since you have, then this class is for you! In our lead climbing class you will learn all the fundamentals of leading and lead belaying. This course is six hours of instruction with a thirty minute break. Rental harness and shoes are provided in course fee if needed. Following the workshop participants must successfully pass the lead climbing and lead belay test in order to gain access to participation in lead climbing and/or belaying in the River Rock gym. Course Prerequisite: Must be currently climbing at a 5.10 top rope level and checked off to top rope belay at the River Rock.

Have an idea that you’ve always wanted to see on our walls? Now’s the chance to create it for yourself! Join our route setters in resetting of the boulder area! During this event you will learn how to put holds in the wall, how to set movement, how to create flow, and how to set a visually and physically inspiring route. If you do not finish your problem, or it needs fixing, our route setters will do so the following day.
