Lead Climbing Clinic
Aug 18 @ 10:00 am – 4:30 pm

If you have never led before, or it’s been awhile since you have, then this class is for you! In our lead climbing class you will learn all the fundamentals of leading and lead belaying. This course is six hours of instruction with a thirty minute break. Rental harness and shoes are provided in course fee if needed. Following the workshop participants must successfully pass the lead climbing and lead belay test in order to gain access to participation in lead climbing and/or belaying in the River Rock gym. Course Prerequisite: Must be currently climbing at a 5.9 top rope level and checked off to top rope belay at the River Rock.

Risk assessment factors
Falling potential and forces
Acceptable clipping techniques and methods
Identify clipping hazards and dangers
Climbing preparedness
Lead rope management and body placement
Climber/Belayer communication
Belay techniques using the Petzl Grigri method
Arresting a fall
Lowering a climber

Scheduled Dates:
Sunday, June 2nd 10am-4:30pm
A 30 minute lunch break is built into the schedule. We recommend that you pack a lunch to save time.
Top Out Clinic
Aug 18 @ 3:30 pm – 4:00 pm

This clinic is specifically designed for, and required for, youth under the age of 14 who want to learn how to top out in our bouldering area. It takes approximately 30 minutes. A parent or court appointed legal guardian must be present.

Course topics:
• How to fall
• Proper top-out techniques
• Downclimbing
• Active spotting
• Review of River Rock bouldering policies

This clinic is $1 (day pass and rental gear not included).

Saturday and Sunday, 3:30pm

Belay Class
Aug 18 @ 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm

In the Basic Belay Class you will work with our instructor and learn the technique of belaying. After taking the class and before your first time climbing, you will be required to take a belay test showing the staff that you have retained all the information and skills necessary. Taking this class and successfully passing the belay test will enable you to belay climbers in the gym.
This course takes approximately an hour and a half. Rental harness and shoes are provided in course fee if needed.
Course Prerequisite: participants must be at least 14 years old

FREE – River Rock Members
$25 non-members
$50 for class with a 1-week membership included – this great deal begins the day you take your belay class. All the benefits to being a member are included; you can come take one of our many instructional or fitness classes, not to mention coming back to climb as many times as you’d like within the 1 week time frame. When you return to become belay verified bring a friend! You get 1 free guest pass (rental gear included) with the 1-week membership, so when you test out you now have a climbing partner you can belay!

Be aware: It is really hard to teach someone how to belay without a person at the other end of the rope. The River Rock can’t provide you a climber to take the belay class. The instructor will be on the ground working with the belay class. If there is more than one person in the class, no problem. The class participants can climb for each other.
If you are the only person registered you will need to provide a climber. We will not charge for your climber during the class time and will provide them with all of the equipment necessary. Contact the gym if you have any questions (540) 685-2360.

Slackline Sunday
Aug 18 @ 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Every Sunday from 5 – 8 pm try out slacklining. Increase your balance and have fun while you do it! Just $10 and includes a pass to climb from 5-8 pm and rental gear if you need it – climb or slackline, your choice.

All-Level Yoga
Aug 19 @ 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm

All level yoga class instructed by Uttara Yoga.

Every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 6:30-7:30pm.
Free for gym members.

Reach Your Peak Climbing Fitness Program
Aug 19 @ 7:30 pm – 8:30 pm

Reach Your Peak (RYP) is an eight-week climbing fitness training program that utilizes a combination of roped climbing and bouldering (non-roped climbing) for climbers to improve their skills and reach their personal fitness goals.The program was developed utilizing auto-belay devices for the roped climbing components, so no need to have a climbing partner.
Any level of climber can participate! Improve your overall health, improve endurance, and strengthen already existing skill-sets. Of course, there are other unintended side effects that have been seen from following this program:

  • Healthy weight-loss
  • Overall feeling of increased “coolness”
  • New-found or renewed passion for climbing
  • Increased popularity
  • Less tired and sluggish at work
  • Better nights of sleep

Each weekly session will also have additional workouts or “homework” that will require you to make additional visits to the gym before you start the next program week. We recommend that participants are members of the gym for the duration of the 8 week program.

No additional cost to participate over regular admission to the gym or gym membership.You can either go it alone or participate as a group in our RYP work-out sessions. Our staff will be available during the organized sessions to answer questions, give support, or help guide technique.

Core & Strength Training Class
Aug 20 @ 6:30 am – 7:30 am

The class will utilize kettlebells and bodyweight to deliver a powerful combination of exercises that will build lean muscle, burn fat, and strengthen your core. The hour will be separated into three parts: warm-up, proper mobility and positioning, and moderate intensity to high volume exercises. This class is perfect for the beginner but can be modified to the individual’s needs, should they feel too challenged or not challenged enough.

Tues. & Thurs. Morning 6:30 – 7:30 am
Free for River Rock Members.

Aug 20 @ 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm

Pilates classes instructed by Performance Pilates.

Every Tuesday evening from 6:30-7:30pm.
Free for gym members.

Pub Climb
Aug 20 @ 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm

Now every first and third Tuesday of the month!

Starting at 7:00 pm, the River Rock will be offering a $10 pass with gear included. Climb first, then head over to the Wasena City Tap Room for more specials there! $8.00 1 topping pizzas and additional nightly specials! Remember: climb first, beer later…

Special Member’s Only Hours: 6:00am – 10:00am
Must be a current River Rock Member to access the facility during these times. The gym will open to the public (and remain open to member’s) starting at 10:00am.
