Core & Strength Training Class
Apr 24 @ 6:30 am – 7:30 am

The class will utilize kettlebells and bodyweight to deliver a powerful combination of exercises that will build lean muscle, burn fat, and strengthen your core. The hour will be separated into three parts: warm-up, proper mobility and positioning, and moderate intensity to high volume exercises. This class is perfect for the beginner but can be modified to the individual’s needs, should they feel too challenged or not challenged enough.

Tues. Evening 7:30 – 8:30 pm
Tues. & Thurs. Morning 6:30 – 7:30 am
Free for River Rock Members or $12 drop in rate.

Tai Ji
Apr 24 @ 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm

All level Tai Ji class instructed by Alan Armstrong of the Discovering Monkey School of Qigong and Taijiquan.

Every Tuesday from 4:30-5:30pm. Free for gym members, $12 non-member/guest rate.

Youth Team
Apr 24 @ 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm

Our Youth Competitive Climbing Team welcomes youth of all skill levels looking to challenge themselves in a competitive climbing format. Competition climbing is an exciting individual sport which promotes physical strength and confidence. In addition, climbing helps youth build lasting friendships and a good work ethic. As a member of the Team, you will participate in two 2 hour practices a week and participate in a number of local bouldering or sport climbing competitions with the opportunity to progress to regional and national competitions. Participation in the competitive Team is by coaches’ invitation.

Spring Season: January 30 – May 3, excluding April 3 and 5.

Meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-7:30pm.

Must be a current River Rock Member to access the facility during these times. The gym will open to the public (and remain open to member’s) starting at 10:00am.

Youth Club (7-10 year olds)
Apr 25 @ 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm

The River Rock Youth Club is for youth climbers looking to explore the sport. Our coaching staff will emphasize the fundamentals of climbing and fitness in a fun and relaxed environment. Club sessions focus on balance, movement, strength training, communication and mental strategy. This program offers a lot less commitment than our competitive team with plenty of opportunity to progress in climbing technique.

Due to the popularity of the program, we are now offering two sessions: Mondays for kids aged 11-14, and Wednesdays for kids aged 7-10.

Spring Season: January 24 through April 25, excluding April 4.
Meets Wednesdays from 5:30-7 pm.

Rappelling Best Practices
Apr 26 @ 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm


This special class led by Swis Stockton, a Granite Arches climbing guide, is only being offered at the River Rock this March and April! The class will follow the AAC guidelines and also include extra information that Granite Arches finds useful. This course is a thorough overview of rappelling and is designed for those who have some outdoor climbing experience. Not recommended for complete beginners.

The class will cover:
-Analysis of the causes of rappelling accidents
-Anchors and accessing fixed anchors
-Knotting, throwing, and descending ropes
-Rappel systems and backups
-Effective communication
-Hands on practice and questions

Attendees should arrive prepared with paper and pencil for notes, a harness, and climbing shoes.

Participants must be 14 years of age or older. Must be Top Rope Belay verified. Lead Climbing verified is a plus. This clinic is $25 for members, $50 for non-members (day pass and rental gear not included). Registration is required as space is limited!

Swis Stockton is a Granite Arches climbing guide. He is also a Certified Rock Instructor, an AMGA Single Pitch Instructor Course Provider, and has written articles for Rock and Ice magazine. He has over 20 years of guiding experience and has climbed all over the world from New Hampshire to the Canadian Rockies to the Andes.
