Competitive Youth Climbing Team

Fall 2024 Season

Youth ages 10-17 are invited to the open tryout on Thursday, September 5th from 6-8 pm.  The coach will evaluate the climber and their interest in competitive climbing.  Participation for the team is by coaches invitation.  The competitive climbing team will represent the River Rock in USA Climbing regional events. Team practices are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 to 6:30 pm.  The fall season will run from September 24 – December 8.

The Youth Qualifying Series is an opportunity for young climbers to compete with other climbers and, if desired, earn qualification to championship events (Regional, Divisional, and National) in the USA Climbing competition season.  The fall season is bouldering and the spring season is ropes/lead climbing.

Youth climbing team members will be responsible for membership to USAC, attending two practices a week, and attending competitive climbing events.  The tuition for the season is the total projected expenses of the coach and training divided by the total number of youth members.  The youth competitors are also responsible for their own transportation and expenses for attending competitions.

Our Youth Competitive Climbing Team welcomes youth of all skill levels looking to challenge themselves in a competitive climbing format. Competition climbing is an exciting individual sport which promotes physical strength and confidence. In addition, climbing helps youth build lasting friendships and a good work ethic. As a member of the Team, you will participate in two 2 hour practices a week and participate in a number of local competitions.

Participation in the Competitive Team is by the coaches’ invitation, so you must attend the Open Tryout session.

Team members must own their own climbing shoes, attend the two training sessions a week, and be willing to workout/climb outside of this time as well.
