New Climbers

Frequently Asked Questions

1. I’ve never tried rock climbing before and have no experience and no equipment. Can I climb in your gym?
ANSWER: Absolutely, you can climb in our gym! We have all of the equipment you need and provide all first time visitors an orientation to our facility. So come on in – we will have you climbing in about 30 minutes.

2. Do I need any special clothing to climb?
ANSWER: We suggest wearing loose fitting athletic clothing. Long shorts are better than short shorts, as they protect your legs from the harness straps. Our rental shoes are just that, rentals. We do disinfect them after every usage, but we suggest wearing socks when climbing in our rental shoes. We advise against hoop earrings or jewelry that will get caught on the wall. Long hair needs to be tied back and secured.

3. Do I need to fill out a visitor agreement to enter your gym?
ANSWER: Yes, everyone who enters our gym must fill out a visitor agreement. Even if you’re not climbing, and are only observing, you still need to fill out a visitor agreement. Anyone under the age of 18 must have a visitor agreement signed by the parent or legal guardian. You can fill out our visitor agreement online by clicking HERE.

4. Can I, as the Grandparent, sign the visitor agreement for my grandkids?
ANSWER: Unfortunately we need the parent or court appointed legal guardian of minors to complete the visitor agreement for them.

5. Where is the kid’s section for climbing?
ANSWER: Anywhere they can climb. We also have an area with flatter walls and easier routes for beginners and children alike.

6. Do I need to watch my kids? Will you watch them for me?
ANSWER: Yes, you must watch your kids. Adults need to be actively supervising youth under the age of 14 at all times.

7. Can I bring my kids and several of their friends in to climb?
ANSWER: Yes you may, but we require a 1 adult per 3 child ratio for all children under the age of 14. So if you will have more than 3 children with you, you’ll need to bring another parent or rent one of our staff members. All children must have a visitor agreement signed by their parent or legal guardian.

8. How old do you have to be to climb?
ANSWER: Children must be at least 3 years old to climb. We do not allow children under the age of 3 to walk (or be placed) in our “active climbing” areas and will require a 1:1 ratio of supervision.

9. Do I have to wear special shoes? Can I climb barefoot?
ANSWER: We do require shoes specifically manufactured for recreational climbing (climbing shoes), which we rent, for both bouldering and top roping. Sorry, no “five-fingers”, approach shoes, or barefoot climbing allowed.

10. Is it worth it to get a membership?
ANSWER: Definitely! If you think you’ll be coming in several times a month you will end up saving money by having a membership instead of paying the daily fee each visit. Additionally, for the first month that you are a member, all rental gear is on us. Memberships for youth under the age of 14 include free rental gear. 11. Do you have a shirts policy?
ANSWER: We require shirts at all times in the gym. You are welcome to wear tank-tops.

12. Do I need a helmet?
ANSWER: Nope. If you wish to bring a helmet you are welcome to. However, we only allow UIAA rated helmets specifically designed and manufactured for recreational climbing. No bike helmets…

13. How old do I have to be to belay?
ANSWER: You have to be at least 14 years old.

14. How old do I have to be to use the auto belay?
ANSWER: You must be at least 14 years old or older to operate our auto-belays. Children younger than 14 may climb using the auto-belays as long as an adult (18 or older) accompanying them has been through our auto-belay orientation and connects/disconnects them and are actively supervising their use.

15. I’m scared of heights. Do I have to go to the top?
ANSWER: You only have to climb as high as you are comfortable climbing!

16. How often do you completely reset the routes and boulder problems?
ANSWER: Our goal is to completely turn the gym over every three months, doing so by sections on a bi-weekly basis.

17. Do we sell gift certificates?
ANSWER:Yes, we do sell gift certificates. You may purchase them for a specific product or a dollar amount at our gym. We can also take payment over the phone and mail the gift card to you or the recipient.

18. Do you have weight limits?
ANSWER: The climbing harnesses are a one-size-fits-most and generally open up to a 46″ waist size. The manufacturer of our auto-belay devices has set an upper limit of 310lbs maximum.
